Understanding Al-Layl
Al-Layl contrasts people whose giving and God-consciousness make the path of good easier with those whose stinginess and self-sufficiency lead toward difficulty. The Surah teaches that human efforts move in different moral directions even when outward activity looks similar. This page intentionally separates the translated Quran text from IHSAYA's short educational summary.
Activity alone is not the measure; intention and moral direction matter.
Generosity and God-consciousness are linked with ease toward what is good.
Stinginess is tied to a false sense that one does not need Allah or others.
Editorial basis: the Quran text and attributed translation on this page. See IHSAYA Sources for the editorial sourcing standard.
Reflection prompts
- What direction are my repeated efforts actually taking me?
- Does generosity make my heart freer, or does fear of loss control me?
