Understanding Luqman
Luqman combines signs of Allah's wisdom with the advice of Luqman to his son: reject shirk, honor parents without obeying wrongdoing, establish prayer, encourage good, resist wrong and walk with humility. This page intentionally separates the translated Quran text from IHSAYA's short educational summary.
Luqman's advice starts from worshipping Allah alone and recognizing that gratitude benefits the grateful person.
Parents deserve kindness, yet obedience does not extend to being asked to associate partners with Allah.
Prayer, patience, tone of voice, walking style and treatment of others are all included in practical wisdom.
Editorial basis: the Quran text and attributed translation on this page. See IHSAYA Sources for the editorial sourcing standard.
Reflection prompts
- If I advised a child I loved, which of Luqman's priorities would I emphasize first?
- What small habit in my speech or manner most needs humility?
