Understanding At-Tahrim

At-Tahrim begins with a household incident and turns it into lessons about not making unlawful what Allah made lawful, sincere repentance, family responsibility and examples of believing and unbelieving women. This page intentionally separates the translated Quran text from IHSAYA's short educational summary.

Do not overburden yourself religiously

Personal pressure is not allowed to redefine what Allah made lawful.

Protect yourself and your household

Family responsibility includes moral care, not only material support.

Relationship does not replace faith

Examples of wives of prophets and believing women show that each person remains personally accountable.

For detailed interpretation, historical discussion or legal/religious conclusions, consult reliable tafsir and qualified scholarship. This section is IHSAYA editorial/reflection material, not tafsir, a fatwa or a substitute for qualified scholarship.

Editorial basis: the Quran text and attributed translation on this page. See IHSAYA Sources for the editorial sourcing standard.

Reflection prompts

  • Where do I make religion harder than Allah made it?
  • What does moral care for my household look like beyond providing money or rules?
