Understanding Al-Falaq

Al-Falaq is a short prayer for refuge in Allah, the Lord of the daybreak, from the evil of what He has created, the darkness of night as it settles, those who practice harmful magic, and the envy of an envier. This page intentionally separates the translated Quran text from IHSAYA's short educational summary.

Seeking refuge

The Surah is framed as a direct request for protection addressed to Allah alone.

Named sources of harm

It names specific categories of harm — general evil, darkness, harmful practices and envy — rather than leaving the request vague.

Allah as Lord of the daybreak

It anchors the request in Allah’s title as Lord of the daybreak, connecting protection with the arrival of light.

Reflection prompts

  • What specific harm or worry do I need to consciously hand over to Allah rather than carry alone?
  • How do I respond when I notice envy, whether directed at me or felt by me toward others?
